Wishing our gre‘A’t leader all the best!

The Recreation Department has some rather sad news to share in this week’s column.

Recreation Director Bill Schurman will be leaving us at the end of the month to return home to Prince Edward Island to be with his family.

Throughout his years with our department and the Town of Amherst, Bill’s presence has certainly made a profound and positive impact on our community. He has accomplished a lot and made great strides in helping improve the culture within Amherst and helping us to #seewhyweloveit.

Activities to get you moving abound in Amherst

This is a busy action-packed week for the Town of Amherst!

To start, we have the Fundy 55+ Games, which are open to all Fundy region residents, who are 55 years of age or older. The region includes Cumberland, Colchester and East Hants counties.

Kicking off the events in Amherst is golf, which is being held at the Amherst Golf Club at 11 a.m. on June 5. Next, there will be floor curling at the 50+ Club on Thursday, June 6, at 1 p.m. On Monday, June 10, at 10 a.m., the Amherst Tennis Club will host tennis. Wrapping up the games will be a timed walk, run and wheelchair event in Amherst on Friday, June 14, at 10 a.m.

Fred Page Cup 2019 a huge success

The Town of Amherst experienced a large turnout each day the tournament was held. The Amherst Ramblers fought extremely hard and made the town proud of their work ethic and dedication.

ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge kicks off

Kicking off this week is the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge.

Starting on May 31 and going until June 16, the Town of Amherst is going head-to-head against communities from across Canada who, through the “Community Better Challenge,” are seeking to be recognized as Canada’s Most Active Community.

The winner of that title will be awarded $150,000 for local physical activity initiatives.

May flowers are among us!

We are sure you can agree with us that it is nice to see the sun shining and the temperature rising into the double digits.

The spring rains, followed by a few sunny days sure have greened things up. Lots of trees are in flower, with leaves about to unfurl, and the tulip buds are bursting.
