Sept 26: Keep active outdoors or at the stadium

There’s coolness in the air and the leaves are starting to change colour and fall from the trees. Don’t let that stop you from being active in all our outdoor recreational spaces.  All parks, trails, tennis courts and washrooms are open daily. Please note our washrooms are open daily from dawn to dusk.  

The Amherst Stadium has gone through many changes this summer through our capital projects. Our ice condition plant got an overhaul, two new humidifiers installed, new rink boards, new sound system and Wi-Fi and a new paint job throughout parts of the facility.

Sept 19: Basketball kicks off Multisport program

Fall is in the air! Children and teachers are settling in back to school.  Local sport organizations and community groups have begun fall registration and programs.  The Amherst-Cumberland Multisport Program has a full group this year and we're excited to start with Basketball! 

Ten local sport organizations have committed to the program throughout the next 10 months. Basketball is the first sport on the schedule followed by skating, curling, gymnastics, taekwondo, swimming, athletics, soccer, cheer and baseball.

Sept 5: gardening hints, Communities in Bloom, tree planting

What “A” great summer 2018 has turned out to be!

We would like to wish all the students and teachers heading back to school this week, a great school year in 2018-2019!

And while summer is beginning to wind down, we are still being blessed daily by the beautiful sunshine and warm days. Vegetable gardens are providing bountiful harvests and flowers throughout the town are still in full bloom.

Consistent watering is the key to keeping your garden continually producing healthy and plump fruits and vegetables and to keep those flowers a blooming. During days of high humidity and wind, watering should take place in the early morning and some may even require a nightly watering depending on the day and exposure of your gardens and planters.

Sept 12: Have fun with "A" Fest!

September is here and it seems everyone is back to their busy schedules of getting ready for school or heading back to participate in their favorite sport. Fall sure seems to be on its way.

That certainly is not going to stop us from having a little fun! We are so excited for our first ‘A' Fest, happening from September 13-16. This event will be sure to please the whole family with so many fun exciting things to participate in.

It has been a beautiful, hot summer this year in Amherst! We still have a variety of Family First programs taking place to help stay busy and active as the summer comes to an end. Take advantage of the free events and activities that include trail walks, yoga, ball hockey, open swims, movie night in the park, and more!
