The annual Amherst Valentine Run falls on the Saturday of Winter Carnival. Race registration is now open for 3K, 5K, 10K and 21.1K
The Amherst Curling Club hosts the Nova Scotia Provincial Senior Mens and Ladies Curling Championships from February 15-19. The event brings an economic impact of more than $60,000 to the Town’s businesses.
An Off-leash Dog Park pilot project is underway at the Robb Ball Complex on Laplanche Street. The enclosed park has been set up with amenities to provide a space for people to let their dogs run freely. The pilot continues until April.
The Town’s award-winning No-Fee Ice program continues to allow youth programs to use the Stadium ice at no cost.
The Outdoor Skating Surface in downtown Amherst is a hit with residents and visitors in its second year of operation.
Free Snowshoe Rentals are available at the Amherst Stadium, the Four Fathers Memorial Library, and the Cumberland YMCA. Daily or weekend rentals make it easy for people to enjoy Amherst area trails when the snow is deep.
The Big Block Walk is a loop in downtown Amherst that is given priority for snow clearance so people can stay active and healthy all winter. Each loop is 700 metres.
The indoor walking track at the Amherst Stadium is an option for people who want to avoid the ice and cold weather altogether.
The Amherst Recreation Department is creating a detailed mater list of local performers and entertainers.
