Activities to get you moving abound in Amherst

This is a busy action-packed week for the Town of Amherst!

To start, we have the Fundy 55+ Games, which are open to all Fundy region residents, who are 55 years of age or older. The region includes Cumberland, Colchester and East Hants counties.

Kicking off the events in Amherst is golf, which is being held at the Amherst Golf Club at 11 a.m. on June 5. Next, there will be floor curling at the 50+ Club on Thursday, June 6, at 1 p.m. On Monday, June 10, at 10 a.m., the Amherst Tennis Club will host tennis. Wrapping up the games will be a timed walk, run and wheelchair event in Amherst on Friday, June 14, at 10 a.m.

Relay for Life

We also have Relay for Life on June 8.relay 1

This is an incredibly important event for the town, as it is a way to show those affected by cancer that they do not stand alone.

We will walk to raise funds for ground-breaking cancer research, services such as transportation to treatments and peer support programs.

Come to the Amherst Stadium and join a movement with thousands of other participants across the country! There will be the option to purchase a luminary to honour and remember your loved ones.

Stop by the stadium from 6 p.m.-12 a.m. to check out the evening’s events.

ParticipACTION challenge 

The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge is in full swing throughout the community. The challenge began on May 31 and continues until June 16.

We are looking to put Amherst on the map as one of the most active communities in Canada with the ultimate title being named Canada’s Most Active Community and winning the top prize of $150,000, which will be used to support local physical activity initiatives. Five regional winners will also be recognized and presented with $20,000 each to support active community activities.

Family Sunset Run

We are hoping for sunny weather and a big turn out for our first Annual Family Sunset Run happening on June 6, starting at 6:30 p.m.Sunset run 1 B

The run is three kilometres long and is open to all ages and abilities. There will be light snacks provided and a ribbon waiting at the finish line for participants.

Come participate and we will put all the minutes into the ParticipACTION app for you, all you need to do is get active. This would also be a great opportunity for some fun family photos and be sure to use the hashtag #seewhyweloveit if you post any on social media so other communities can see all the fun we are having.

Active Amherst Community Night

Active Amherst Community Night, is happening on Friday, June 7, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dickey Park. Join us as we play various sports and games with the help of our various community sponsors around town!
