Amherst Stadium walking track hours to be expanded

Council approved during its Jan. 25, 2021, session the creation of a 1.7 full-time-equivalent term customer service representative position for a period that runs between now and March 31, 2021.

Creating the position will allow the town to extend the walking track hours at the Amherst Stadium to about 90 hours per week from the current 10 hours per week, while maintaining COVID-19 protocols at the stadium as ordered by the provincial government.

It will also enable some public skating sessions to be held and the renting of snowshoes to take place at the stadium during the extended hours.

Funding for this position from now until March 31, 2021, will come from the 2020-2021 operating budget.

The change in hours will take place once the position is filled.

Meeting dates

Council approved changing the meeting dates for its February committee of the whole meeting and its May council session because the regular dates fall on holidays.

The February committee of the whole meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, because Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, is Heritage Day.

The May council session will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, because Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, is Victoria Day.

Auditor appointed

Jorgensen & Bickerton Chartered Professional Accountants Inc. was appointed the town’s auditor for the 2020-2021 fiscal year by council after receiving a recommendation from the audit committee to make the appointment.
