What's Up Rec?

Celebrate Amherst by attending upcoming 'A Fest

It’s time to start thinking about heading back to school and getting into a routine. Happy back-to-school to all of our teachers and students! We hope everyone has a great school year.

But don’t get too sad summer is over yet – we still have ‘A Fest coming up, which is full of fun activities for the whole family!

On Sept. 13, from 5:30-10 p.m., we’ll be hosting Family Date Night, which will feature a maze, photo booth, sparkle tattoos, live music from Second Toe, an outdoor showing of Secret Life of Pets 2 and more! Opening ceremonies will begin at 5:30 p.m.A Fest

On Sept. 14, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., we are hosting our Family Fun Day. This event features a walking challenge, maze, inflatable fun, petting zoo, live music, vendors and the list goes on! The entertainment lineup is as follows:

  • 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Drew Moore
  • 12-1 p.m. Mike Blakeney
  • 1-2 p.m. Kent Beattie
  • 2-3 p.m. The Siddalls

Both events are part of our ‘A Fest, which promotes our goal of becoming the most active, healthy community in Nova Scotia. We hope to see everyone there helping to support our active, healthy community.

Tree Day

The Town of Amherst will be partnering with TD Bank for its sixth year to help build native trees and shrubs within our parks and green spaces. TD Tree Day is happening Sept. 14 at 9 a.m. Meet the ‘A Team at the Robb Complex and Curry Park to participate. All you need to bring is a shovel and lots of water to keep hydrated.

And while summer is beginning to come to an end, our flowers are still thriving throughout the town. Consistent watering is the key to keeping your garden continually producing healthy, plump fruits and vegetables, and to keep those flowers blooming and looking bright.

During days of high humidity and wind, watering should take place in the early morning. Some may even require a nightly watering, depending on the day and exposure of your gardens and planters. Thank you for helping to keep our town looking clean, green and tidy!
