Fred Page Cup underway, runs to May 5

It is Day 1 of the Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian Junior A championships hosted at the Amherst Stadium. 

Participating leagues include the Central Canadian Hockey League, Quebec Junior Hockey League, Maritime Hockey League and the host team, the Amherst Ramblers.

 Game times are 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. daily on May 1, 2, and 3. Amherst Ramblers will be playing the 7:30 p.m. game times.  

The third-place seed will battle the second-place seed on May 4 at 4 p.m. The championship game will take place on Sunday, May 5, at 4 p.m.

All games will be broadcasted on Eastlink. 

Come out and cheer on the Amherst Ramblers and show your support.

Amherst and Area Trail Society hikers 2 B

Among the many green spaces in our community there exists trails that are being maintained, connected and enhanced. 

The Amherst and Area Trail Society was created a few years ago and has a vision to build a community with an excellent trail system that promotes tourism, economic development and recreation for physical activity. 

Joining the society and becoming a member will give you the opportunity to make recommendations, participate in trail maintenance and development, become a voting member and be invited on trail walks, runs and other recreational activities.

Ducks Unlimited Annual Dinner and Auction 

The Ducks Unlimited Annual Dinner and Auction is being held at the Amherst Curling Club on Friday, May 3. Tickets are $45 and include a delicious supper with your choice of steak or lobster, raffles, games, and a live and silent auction.

All proceeds will benefit our wetlands and our environment.

Highland Fling

The Cumberland Health Care Hospital Auxiliary will celebrate 37 years at the Highland fling on Saturday, May 11. at the Amherst Curling Club.  There will be food, fun and bargains for all ages.

L.A. Animal Shelter 

Support the L.A. Animal Shelter with a delightful Spring Tea! The Shelter Spring Tea Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, May 5, at the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre. 

There are two sittings at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with lunch, live music and a silent auction.

Tickets are $15 each and are available at Buds to Blossoms, The Coppertree Boutique and Shell Gas Station or from shelter volunteers.

Fishing Derby

Start digging for worms! The Family Fishing Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 25,  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pumping Station Pond in Brookdale. Maltby Sports have donated prizes for age categories and longest fish!
