Amherst is in full swing with Holiday Spirit, with only 20 days until Christmas.
We hope everyone got out to enjoy our Holiday light up, parade and the Tree for Boston send off this year. With a record number of Floats registered, it made for a wonderful parade.
“A” big congratulation goes out to all the float winners and a thank you to all who put so much work and time into participating in our parade this year.
Did you know the tree for Boston came from our very own Cumberland County this year?
And what do you think of the beautiful lights at Victoria Square and throughout the community?
Lots to be proud of!
We know December will be very busy with everyone getting ready for Christmas, but we want to encourage you to still get out and get active. Did you know exercise in almost any form can act as a stress reliever? Being active can boost your feel-good endorphins and distract you from daily worries and stress. And we have lots of activities for you!
The Amherst Stadium Recreation Office, Four Fathers Library, and The Cumberland YMCA loan snowshoes free of charge. What a great way to enjoy our outdoor tracks and trails over the winter.
We also have our holiday skates, and swimming at the YMCA. Don’t forget about our outdoor skating surface at the corner of Victoria St and Maple Ave. This will be open daily again this winter, weather permitting.
We also have our indoor walking track available at the Amherst Stadium. This is a safe easy way to keep up your walking over the cold winter months.
Another way to stay active is to stay social. So, get out and enjoy all the fun events and activities our community has to offer. We are looking forward to our New Year’s Eve Family First Celebration. Will you be there?
Ring in the New year with us and enjoy some fun at the Amherst Stadium on Monday, Dec. 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We will have live music, ice colouring, horse and wagon rides, and rooftop fireworks. All activities are free of charge and tobacco and alcohol free!
Our next scheduled regular council meeting will be on Monday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. at Amherst town hall. The meeting is open to the public. Attending these meetings is a great way to be involved in your community and to stay informed.
