The Skate Canada Nova Scotia Championships are coming to Amherst!
Come out and watch skaters compete on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23. Everyone is welcome and the admission is free!
Have you heard about the Town of Amherst’s snowshoe lending program? It is a fantastic way to get outside and be active. Whether you are a pro or a novice, we have the equipment for you! Borrow a set of snowshoes and venture out on one of our trails, hike through a field or around an outdoor walking track. Snowshoes can be signed out at the Amherst Stadium, Four Fathers Memorial Library or the Cumberland YMCA free of charge.
The outdoor skating rink is up and running! Gather your friends, partners or family and head downtown to the rink where you can lace on your skates for a good time. The laughter and fun will skate your worries away. Volunteers are also welcome to bring a shovel to help clear the rink.
The Coldest Night of the Year is a family-friendly walk that is happening on Feb. 22. This event raises money for charities serving hungry, homeless and hurting people in our community. You are invited to join!
The Living Well Program starts today, Feb. 19, at the Amherst Stadium. Join us, in partnership with the YMCA, for a FREE, fun-filled, six-week program.
We will explore health topics for older adults like nutrition, gardening/outdoors, staying healthy, mental health and more! A light fitness class will be incorporated into each session. There will be refreshments and a new guest speaker each week.
You won’t want to miss this great opportunity to get out, socialize and learn something new! Today’s session runs from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
Looking for a way to stay active on your lunch? Recreational skating is offered at the Amherst Stadium, free of charge, as part of the Town of Amherst’s physical activity strategy. Please see the stadium calendar on the town’s website, amherst.ca, or follow us on the Amherst Recreation Facebook page for updates and details on what’s going on at the stadium.
