The battle for the Fred Page Cup begins soon

It’s less than a week until the puck drops for Game 1 of the Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian Junior A Championship, being held at the Amherst Stadium.

Our amazing volunteers along with the Recreation Department are busy getting all the final details together to help make our guests from the Central Canadian Hockey League, the Quebec Hockey and the Maritime Hockey League feel welcome.

Let’s show our guests what Amherst is all about.

First Responders, Volunteers honouredFlag Raising FR 1 B

The Town of Amherst was happy to celebrate our First Responders and our Volunteers this month.

April 8 to April 14 was proclaimed First Responders Week and Amherst town council honored our First Responders and their families by providing many opportunities for the community to say thank you, including a church service and parade, an open house and a flag raising ceremony.

“Council wants to thank the members of the Amherst Police Department, Amherst Fire Department, Cumberland RCMP and the local Emergency Health Services paramedics for the outstanding service they provide the town,” Mayor David Kogon said when he signed the proclamation on April 1.

The Town of Amherst also recognized the efforts of more than two dozen volunteers on April 9 during our annual Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony.

A big congratulations goes out to Aaron Froese, our Youth Volunteer of the Year and Shelley Carroll our 2019 Volunteer Representative of the Year.

Such great work is being done in our community.

Council meeting

The next town council meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at town hall, 98 Victoria St. E. These meetings are open to the public and the community is encouraged to attend.

If you are unable to attend, they are also streamed live at https://amherst.ca/live-streamed-meetings.html. Follow the Town of Amherst Facebook and Twitter pages for live updates.

Outdoor facilities opening soon

It is finally starting to feel like winter is behind us. Our outdoor facilities will be maintained and opened for use in the upcoming weeks as town crews are in full swing cleaning up our parks and outdoor facilities.

We hope you will join us in helping to keep Amherst clean and tidy. Help us make Amherst ‘A’ beautiful place to live, work & play.
