The Town of Amherst presented the United Way of Cumberland County with a $1,000 cheque on Jan. 9 in support of the charity’s Festival of Trees.

“It’s an honour to give this cheque to an organization that does so much to help area residents,” Mayor David Kogon said, as he handed the cheque to United Way president Dave March.

“The town is proud to have been a sponsor of the Festival of Trees.”

The festival was held Nov. 17-18 as a fundraiser for the United Way. During the two-day event, the charity held a business luncheon, a breakfast with Santa, an arts and craft fair and an auction. They also offered pictures with Santa and sold tickets on a gift card tree.

“I think people really enjoyed the Festival of Trees,” March said. “People are identifying the festival with us just as they associate the Evening of Art with the transition house and the Highland Fling with the hospital.

“It was a successful fundraiser. It lived up to our expectations. We raised $5,600 from the festival and we are grateful the town sponsored this event.”
