Male Arrested in E-Bike Theft

On March 25 2024 at approximately 4:42am in the morning the Amherst Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at a business on Church Street in Amherst Nova Scotia. Upon arrival Officers determined that someone had broken the glass to the front door of the business and a break-in had occurred. During the incident it was determined that high valued electric bicycles had been stolen from inside the business.

Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for an individual on March 30 2024, and on April 24 2024 the Amherst Police Department located and arrested Michael Dougals Richard, aged 29 of Amherst Nova Scotia. With the assistance of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in New Brunswick the bicycles were recovered during a separate police operation and returned to the business.

As a result of the investigation, Richard has been charged with:

  • Break and Enter with intent to commit an indictable offence;
  • Possession of stolen property for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Mischief under $5000
  • Theft under $5000 x 2

Richard was remanded into custody and is set to appear before the court again on April 29 2024 in Amherst Provincial Court.
