Amherst Stadium to be used as COVID-19 testing centre
The COVID-19 testing centre in the Town of Amherst is being moved to the Amherst Stadium.
“We are more than happy to assist Nova Scotia Health in ensuring residents of Amherst and Cumberland County have access to a COVID-19 testing centre that can meet the current demand for testing,” Mayor David Kogon said. “The Amherst Stadium is more than adequate to meet that demand while ensuring people have a safe location in which they can be tested.”
The current testing centre is located at 34 Prince Arthur St., the site of the Nova Scotia Health offices. By moving to the stadium, Nova Scotia Health
can immediately double the testing capacity in Cumberland County and have space to expand if the need arises.
The Prince Arthur Street location will continue to operate, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, until it is closed for the last time on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at noon.
The stadium test site, located at 185 Church St., will open on Monday, May 17, 2021, at 9 a.m. It will operate daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Appointments for COVID-19 testing are by appointment only. They can be booked at https://covid-self-assessment.novascotia.ca/en or by calling 811.
Kogon urged people to make appointments to get tested.
“The virus is in Cumberland County and Amherst, so it is important that people get tested,” he said. “As Dr. Robert Strang, the province’s chief medical officer of health, has said several times, getting tested, whether you show signs of COVID-19 symptoms or not, will help us flatten this current wave of the pandemic that has hit our province.”
