Matthew Brown joins the ‘A’ team

Matthew Brown has joined the ‘A’ team as the Town of Amherst’s new information services manager.

“We look forward to working with Matthew, who joined our team on May 10, 2021,” Interim CAO Jason MacDonald said, as he announced Brown’s hiring on May 13.

“Matthew brings many years of information services experience to his new position with the Town of Amherst. We are confident that with hisMatthew Brown 2 B previous experience, his proven management, planning and problem-solving skills, he will make a wonderful addition to the ‘A’ team.”

“I’m looking forward to working with my new co-workers,” Brown said, adding the move from Alberta to Nova Scotia was a bit of a homecoming for him.

“I grew up in Kentville. I lived there for 29 years before heading out west. My parents still live in Kentville, and because they’re getting older, I’ve been looking in this direction to see if I could find something that I would enjoy doing.”

While only on duty for a few days, Brown said his new job seems to “be very interesting.”

“It looks like it will have some challenges, but it is pretty similar to the position I had out west, so I should fit in pretty well.”

As the information services manager, Brown will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the internet networks and equipment, such as phones, computer, printers and software, that connects the town and its staff to the residents of the community.

Out west, Brown, a graduate of the accounting and the information and technology courses at the Nova Scotia Community College’s Kentville Campus, spent the last 15 years as the manager of information services for the City of Wetaskiwin, Alta. Prior to that he spent six years as a senior computer technician with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Alta.

Brown said he, his wife, Cindy, and daughter, Alex, are looking forward to becoming part of the community, visiting the surrounding beaches and “taking in the sights and sounds of Nova Scotia.”
