Public Health confirms town employee has COVID-19
Nova Scotia Public Health has advised the Town of Amherst that a town employee has tested positive for COVID-19.
Town officials received the information late in the morning on Wednesday, May, 5, 2021.
“Contact tracing is being undertaken by Public Health and any potential contacts are being notified accordingly,” Interim CAO Jason MacDonald said. “Employees who have potentially been exposed are getting tested and are self-isolating. All employees impacted are receiving time off with pay.”
Other town employees are working from home and essential services are being provided, MacDonald said.
“The Town is following all the directions given to us by Public Health,” the interim CAO said. “We consider the health and well-being of our workforce and the citizens of Amherst our highest priority.”
“This is not an unanticipated event,” Mayor David Kogon said. “COVID had to find us eventually.
“It is now vitally important to continue to follow Public Health guidelines by staying home as much as possible, limiting social contacts, practising proper hand hygiene, wearing masks and social distancing to limit the spread of COVID in our community.”
Both men urged people to respect the privacy of the town’s employee and wished the employee a speedy recovery.
The town’s main business line, 902-667-3352, is being monitored during business hours and continues to provide essential services.
