Sept. 26, 2022, proclaimed Medic Monday by the Town of Amherst

The life-saving efforts of the province’s paramedics is being recognized by the Town of Amherst, which has proclaimed Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, as Medic Monday.

“Paramedics play a very important role in our health care system,” Mayor David Kogon said, as he signed the proclamation on behalf of the Amherst town council on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022.

“As a physician, I have personally witnessed the great service provided by our paramedics. These first responders are among our first line of defence when emergencies strike. They are well trained and are ready to respond at a moments notice every day of the year.

“It is important that we recognize the life-saving efforts of these men and women. I urge the citizens of Amherst to take the time on Sept. 26 to thank our EHS paramedics for their excellent service.”

In addition to the proclamation, the town will be flying the Emergency Health Services flag at the corner of Church and Albion streets during Medic Monday.

Veteran local paramedic Novalee Bowden said she’s proud to have served the Cumberland County area for the past 16 years.

“It’s been rewarding to know you have helped people in their time of need,” Bowden said. “Paramedicine is constantly changing and evolving, with our scope of practice having expanded so much in the relatively short time I have been a paramedic. As a lifelong learner, that is one of the things I love most about this job.

“But, above all, knowing we do our best to help others is what keeps me coming back each and every day. I feel so privileged to work alongside colleagues who feel the same way I do about being there for Nova Scotians when they need it.”
