Gordon Food Service expands Amherst distribution centre

Wyoming, Michigan –– July 7, 2018 –– Gordon Food Service Ⓡ , North America’s largest privately held and family managed foodservice distribution company, with operations in the U.S. and Canada, announced July 6 plans to expand their distribution centre in Amherst.

In 2003, Gordon Food Service opened the distribution centre in Amherst to serve customers located in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Since establishing operations, their growth has continued to outpace industry growth.

“For the past few years, our business in this region has grown significantly,” said Dean Noble, president of Gordon Food Service Canada. “We’re excited to see that result inGFS2B new investment and future growth. With this facility expansion, we have the opportunity to continue to extend our distribution footprint and expand our product offering.”

Construction at the Amherst facility began this month. The expansion will add 45,000 square-feet of warehouse space including refrigerated and frozen storage. Gordon Food Service expects the expansion to be complete in winter of 2019.

“Gordon Food Service has been a major contributor to the Town of Amherst’s economy for several years,” said Amherst Mayor David Kogon. “Their announcement today of a large-scale expansion to their distribution center on Industrial Park Drive shows the company continues to have confidence in our community, and that they recognize the Town of Amherst as a good place to live, work and play.”

On June 21, the company held a small celebration for employees to mark a milestone 15-year-anniversary. The president shared they have grown from 70 people to 200 people since they opened.
