Rector holds a bachelor of business administration in accounting and a bachelor of arts in psychology. She is also a chartered professional accountant.

She comes to Amherst with more than 25 years of experience in increasingly responsible roles in a variety of municipal, provincial and federal organization. Rector is currently the director of corporate services for the Town of Antigonish. She also oversees the financial management of the Alternative Resource Energy Authority, the operator of the Ellerhouse Wind Farm.

Rector will begin her duties with the Town of Amherst on April 23.

The role of chief financial officer was created by the town during a recent reorganization of staff and expands on the current role of the director of finance. Under the direction of the chief administrative officer, the chief financial officer is responsible for the overall efficient operation and strategic direction for finance, customer service, performance measurement and information technology.

Vince Arbing, the current director of finance, announced his retirement in December. His last day with the town will be April 30.
