Municipal Awareness Week proclaimed

Nov. 17-23, 2019, has been proclaimed Municipal Awareness Week in the Town of Amherst.

“Our municipal government, like other municipal governments across the province, provide services that enhance the quality of life for our citizens,” Mayor David Kogon said on Nov. 15, as he signed the proclamation.

“We are fortunate in Amherst that we have a council that works hard for the town’s citizens. We are equally fortunate that we have a hard-working town staff that often goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the services we offer our citizens are topnotch.Municipal Awareness Week 1 B

“Equally important to our community are the dozens of volunteers who are actively working for the betterment of this community. Together, we are making Amherst a great place to live, work and play.”

Proclaiming Municipal Awareness was fitting and proper because it is a way “to recognize and encourage the contribution of all who work diligently for the improvement of our town,” the mayor said.

Kogon urged people to participate in Municipal Awareness Week by attending Amherst town council’s committee of the whole meeting, which is being held at town hall on Nov. 18, beginning at 4 p.m.

“Attending the meeting would give residents an insight into how municipal government works and the issues we are facing,” the mayor said.
