Amherst police, fire departments investigating suspicious fires

Two suspicious fires that occurred early Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, are being investigated by Amherst police and fire departments.

The first alarm, turned in at about 2:48 a.m., reported a possible brush fire on Clarence Street.

The investigation in to this fire resulted in the arrest of a man who is facing criminal charges. Amherst police continue to investigate this fire.

The second fire, on East Pleasant St., was reported at about 3:30 a.m. A deceased male was located inside the residence. His identity is not being released at this time.

The cause of this fire remains under investigation. The investigation into this fire will be aided by the fire marshal.
