Town aware of COVID rumour

The Town of Amherst has become aware of a rumour circulating in the community about a potential COVID-19 positive test among its workforce.

However, as of late afternoon on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, the town has “not had any communication from Nova Scotia Public Health in this regard,” Interim CAO Jason MacDonald said.

Out of an abundance of caution, the town did send all its employees home around mid-morning “because we had a small number of employees off sick,” MacDonald said.

The employees, many of whom are working from home, will remain there until more information is available.

“The town remains committed to following all protocols established by Public Health and will follow any direction given to it by that department, should any be received,” MacDonald said.

The town’s main business line, 902-667-3352, is being monitored during business hours and continues to provide essential services.
