Cheryl Laliberté has been hired as the Town of Amherst’s first ever Community Well-Being Manager.
Laliberté, who has more than 25 years of experience in leadership roles and program management, begins her job with the Corporate Services Department on Dec. 16.
“We are excited to welcome Cheryl to our staff and to Amherst,” Chief Administrative Officer Greg Herrett said. “Her professional credentials, varied experiences and enthusiasm for the role are very impressive.
“We look forward to the important contributions she will make. She is a great addition to the ‘A’ team.”
Laliberté’s varied career has seen her work in management positions with the Neighbourhood Organization in Toronto, where she was the manager of family and wellness, Mission Services, where she was the director of women’s services and PACE Independent Living, where she was program manager of the outreach and supportive housing programs.
She has also worked with the Fred Victor Centre as a senior manager, the Huronia Transition Homes as its director of services, the Nova Scotia Department of Seniors as its senior safety co-ordinator for Cumberland County and Rotary Cheshire Homes as a manager and intervenor.
Born in Nova Scotia, Laliberté was a resident of Amherst while working as the province’s senior safety co-ordinator for Cumberland County.
“I’m looking forward to working with our community partners and the town’s residents once again,” she said.
As the town’s Community Well-Being Manager, Laliberté will be responsible for developing community well-being by acting as a liaison with community stakeholders as well overseeing programs and events that increase community well-being and quality of life and attract residents and others to the Town of Amherst.
She will supervise a staff of three - the town’s active living co-ordinator and two culture and marketing co-ordinators - and be responsible for physical activity, marketing and cultural development for the town. She will report to Chief Financial Officer Shelley Rector.
