VON WEEK proclaimed in the Town of Amherst

The week of May 21 to May 27, 2023, has been proclaimed VON Week in the Town of Amherst.

“Canada has been excellently served by VON Canada for more than 125 years,” De[uty Mayor Leon Landry said, as he signed the proclamation on behalf of the Amherst town council on May 19, 2023.

“VON site nurses, home support workers, other staff and volunteers have also been caring for the lives and well-being of Amherst and area residents since 1938.

“By proclaiming VON Week, we are acknowledging the incredible care VON staff and volunteers deliver to keep people health and safe at home. That recognition is more important as we are still dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the VON is right in the thick of it.”

LLandryVON 1 25Landry encourages all residents of the surrounding area “to support the VON in our communities by going online and virtually thanking them for their service and by financially supporting VON Cumberland’s charitable organizations.”

In addition to issuing the proclamation, the town raised the VON flag on May 19, which will fly over the community throughout VON Week.

Darlene Turnbull, VON’s program co-ordinator, said VON Week is an opportunity “to recognize the resilience, courage and strength of VON staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to provide caring support to those who need it most in the face of diverse challenges.”

“We are very proud to be part of an organization that has been making a difference in people’s lives for over 125 years. In fact, VON is Canada’s longest-serving charitable organization offering home and community care. We are proud to be supporting the health and safety of Amherst and area.”
