Regional Urban Mayors Response to ban on single-use plastic bags

The Regional Urban Mayors of Nova Scotia applaud the provincial government’s recent announcement regarding the ban of single-use plastic bags as a good first step to reducing plastic pollution in our environment.

On behalf of their constituents, the Regional Urban Mayors recognize there is a lot left to do to ensure a clean environment – working together, all levels of government can ensure we continue to move towards a cleaner future for our children and grandchildren.

Through our strong partnership and collaborative approach, the regional urban centres of our province are ready to do our part to see this become a reality.

The Regional Urban Mayors of Nova Scotia represent centres of urban population throughout the province, including Halifax Regional Municipality, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Bridgewater, Port Hawkesbury, Antigonish, Amherst, Yarmouth, Kentville, New Glasgow, and Truro.

Together, these areas represent over 65% of the provincial population and provide 95% of the services to the people of Nova Scotia.
