French Toast Fest Returns to Amherst

March 15, 2024

What do you get when your town has an egg factory, a bread factory, and is surrounded by maple sugar woods? An annual French toast festival, of course. French Toast Fest is back for its sixth year from March 18-24, with 11 amazing Amherst restaurants taking part.

Each restaurant has created its own unique French toast dish to offer up, including: raisin bread French toast with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce; French toast sausage rolls; French toast muffins topped with maple cream cheese and maple syrup drizzle, plus salted maple lattés; French Toast churros; Elvis French toast (including peanut butter, bananas, and bacon); apple cinnamon French toast; maple cheesecake topped with French toast crunch and maple syrup; and, Nutella-stuffed French toast with strawberries.

“We have fantastic partnerships with Maritime Pride Eggs and Wonderbrands Inc., as well as our amazing restaurateurs who really stepped up with their creative offerings,” said David Kogon, Mayor of Amherst. “New this year is a sponsorship from the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture’s Buy Local program, which is allowing us to provide locally-purchased maple syrup to every restaurant taking part, as well as to several schools and our local group hosting a French toast community supper.”

Students at Cumberland North Academy, Spring Street Academy, and West Highlands Elementary will be treated to a free French toast lunch during the week, thanks to generous donations from Maritime Pride Eggs and Wonderbrands Inc. And, new to French Toast Fest is a free community supper, which will take place on March 22 at Christ Church, 5 Lawrence Street in Amherst, from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm.
