May 29 to June 4, 2022, has been proclaimed Access Awareness Week in the Town of Amherst.
“Our community values inclusivity, diversity and equity in all areas,” Mayor David Kogon said as he signed the proclamation on behalf of the Amherst town council on Friday, May 27, 2022.
The Amherst town council gave first reading to a bylaw amendment and a development agreement when it met in regular session on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.
The development agreement will allow a group home to be established at 27 West Pleasant St.
The week of May 22 to May 28, 2022, has been proclaimed VON Week in the Town of Amherst.
“VON Canada has served this country for 125 years, while VON site nurses, home support workers, other staff and volunteers have been caring for the lives and well-being of Amherst and area residents for 84 years,” Mayor David Kogon said on May 20, 2022, as he signed the proclamation on behalf of the Amherst town council.
Amherst town council’s committee of the whole is recommending that Amherst town council consider changing the name of Lord Amherst Drive to Ancestral Drive when it meets on May 24, 2022.
The committee made the recommendation at its May 16, 2022, meeting after hearing from the town’s Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Committee, which is also recommending the name change.
