The mayors of Amherst and Cumberland County are asking Premier Stephen MacNeil to stop the permanent closure of Highway 104’s Exit 1A, a move they say is having a serious negative impact on businesses along Highway 2/Laplanche Street and downtown Amherst.
The request was contained in a letter sent to the premier on Dec. 16. 2020.
Allison Watson is the Town of Amherst’s new active living co-ordinator.
The Amherst resident joined the ‘A’ team on Dec. 14, 2020, and is responsible for the overall promotion, operation and development of the town’s active living services and programs for people of all ages.
Amherst town council’s committee whole on Dec. 14, 2020, approved sending a temporary borrow resolution, in an amount not exceeding $1,378,000, to the Dec. 21, 2020, council meeting for approval.
The resolution, which must also be approved by the Municipal Affairs minister, would give the town the authority to borrow the money for the funding of five capital projects.
The Town of Amherst will implement a two-week, post-holiday “circuit-breaker” in the new year in an effort to help protect the health of town employees while maintaining municipal services.
During this two-week period, running from Jan. 4, 2021, to Jan. 15, 2021, designated staff members will be working remotely from home and there is a possibility the hours of operation at Amherst town hall will be reduced.
