The Town of Amherst plans to reopen the Amherst Stadium on Sept. 9, 2020, but it won’t be business as usual because of the ongoing state of emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our opening plan was developed to adhere to the rules established by the Nova Scotia Medical Officer of Health, Nova Scotia State of Emergency and the various user groups’ governing associations, specifically Hockey Nova Scotia, Skate Canada and the Maritime Hockey League,” Jason MacDonald, the town’s operation director and deputy-CAO, said on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020.
New signage has been erected at the provincial COVID-19 checkpoint informing motorists they have the option of using Laplanche Street to enter the Town of Amherst.
The sign, which also informs motorists they can enter Amherst via Exit 3, follows a lobbying effort put forth by several downtown businesses and the Town of Amherst.
The Amherst Fire Department has taken delivery of a new fire truck.
The $600,000 pumper was delivered to the station on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, by manufacturer Metalfab Fire Trucks of Centreville N.B.
“It will replace our No. 2 engine, which has been in service since 1995,” Fire Chief Greg Jones said, as a representative of Metalfab put the truck through its paces before a handful of firefighters.
