Ladies and Gentlemen,
Like you, the entire Amherst town council is very concerned about the delivery of health care at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre and throughout Cumberland County.
Like you, the entire council believes there is a physician shortage that has reached the crisis stage at our hospital and, like you, we consider this to be an issue of prime importance.
No one’s head should go unprotected at the Amherst Lions Skate Park thanks to a generous donation of 40 bike helmets by paramedic students from Oulton College in Moncton.
The helmets, along with other accessories like horns and bells, were delivered to the Town of Amherst on Aug. 20 by classmates Brenda Hicks and Rodney Howse of Amherst.
In response to recent comments, I can assure the citizens of Amherst that neither I nor the town council have been silent when it comes to the situation being faced at our local hospital.
It is out of our concern about the future of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre that Deputy-Mayor Sheila Christie and I became members of the Cumberland Health Care Task Force, which recently issued a petition calling on the provincial government and the Nova Scotia Health Authority to do more to retain and recruit physician to Cumberland County and to include local doctors when they are attending job fairs in order to recruit physicians for this community.
Two corporate citizens have stepped up to be platinum sponsors of this fall’s “A” Fest.
Bluewave Energy and Archway Insurance have donated $1,000 each to the Sept. 13-15 event that celebrates everything Amherst.
As a company with local employees, we like to be involved in the community and to support the local people where we can,” said Greg Smith, Bluewave Energy branch manager. “Sponsoring this great event that celebrates our community is just one way that our company can do that.”
