The Zonta Club of Amherst Area’s contributions to the Town of Amherst over a 35-year period were recognized with a proclamation and flag raising on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019.
“The local Zonta Club is part of Zonta International, a service organization with members in 63 countries who work together to advance the status of women, legally, socially and economically,” Mayor Kogon said, before reading the proclamation that declared Sept. 15-Sept. 21 as Zonta Week in the Town of Amherst.
Archway Insurance and Ultramar have stepped up in a big way to help this town celebrate everything that is Amherst.
The two local businesses have become platinum sponsors of the second annual ‘A Fest, which runs from Sept. 12-15, by donating $1,000 each towards the staging of the event.
Environment Canada has issued a tropical cyclone information statement for this coming weekend that Town of Amherst officials say should be heeded.
Amherst residents may face heavy rain, damaging winds, flooding, power outages, travel delays and road closures due to hurricane Dorian, which is expected to hit the province on Saturday, Sept. 7, and carry over until Sunday, Sept. 8.
Citizens should prepare a 72-hour emergency kit, have potable water on hand, charge their cellphones and ensure generators are fueled and operating properly.
