The Town of Amherst’s Recreation Department is getting a makeover that town officials believe will continue to bolster the well-being of the community while building on the momentum created by former recreation director Bill Schurman.
The changes come in the wake of Schurman’s departure and the interim changes that were put in place during the summer in his absence, Amherst CAO Greg Herrett said while announcing the changes on Sept. 26, 2019.
The Emergency Health Services flag will fly over the Town of Amherst on Monday, Sept. 30, in recognition of the life-saving service provided by paramedics who serve the community, region and province.
“As a physician, I have seen the great work done by paramedics,” Mayor David Kogon said on Sept. 26, 2019, as he signed a proclamation declaring Sept. 30 as Medic Monday in the Town of Amherst.
A video developed by the Town of Amherst to launch its first ever French Toast Fest has been recognized by the Economic Developers Association of Canada with a Marketing Canada Award for best marketing video in Canada.
The award was accepted on behalf of the town by Amherst Business Development Officer Rebecca Taylor on Sunday, Sept, 22, 2019, during the association’s annual general meeting in Edmonton, Alta.
Aaron Graham, a veteran constable with the Amherst Police Department, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
“It’s surreal right now. It’s just been a few short days,” Graham, said of the promotion that went into effect in mid-September. “I have a lot of learning to do.”
“We are very proud of Aaron’s accomplishments over the last 11 years,” Police Chief Dwayne Pike said in announcing the promotion. “He has taken a leadership role in many of the things he has been involved with and has a natural ability to coach others and teach what he has learned during experience as a police officer.
