The Corporate Services Department is a diversified group that provides high quality stewardship, reporting and services to the town’s departments, to external clients and stakeholders and to the citizens of Amherst.
“As the leader of this department, I take great pride in being part of a team that does such a great job tackling challenges and situations, and planning and delivering services to the public no matter what issues arise,” said Shelley Rector, the town’s chief financial officer.
A contract that would see solar panels installed on the roof of the Amherst Stadium was sent by Amherst town council’s committee of the whole to the Nov. 25, 2019, meeting of council for approval.
The decision to send the $256,491 contract with Thermo Dynamics Ltd. was made by the committee during its Nov. 18, 2019, meeting. The motion also recommended approving the associated project costs – Nova Scotia Power interconnection costs of $9,000, Alternative Resource Energy Authority consulting fees of $4,000 and a structural engineering report of $1,650 – at the upcoming council session.

“The Amherst Fire Department will, under the direction of its chief and by the means of its members, commit to providing residents with the most capable fire and emergency service possible, while promoting safety and quality of life.”
That’s the mission statement of the Amherst Fire Department and one the 54-member department works hard to live up to.
Cheryl Laliberté has been hired as the Town of Amherst’s first ever Community Well-Being Manager.
Laliberté, who has more than 25 years of experience in leadership roles and program management, begins her job with the Corporate Services Department on Dec. 16.
