Sherry Rideout has joined the ‘A’ team as the Town of Amherst’s new water-sewer billing and accounting clerk.
“Sherry’s combination of education and previous municipal experience in a finance and administrative role with the Town of Sackville makes her a strong match for her new role with the Town of Amherst,” CAO Jason MacDonald said, as he announced her hiring on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021.
Amherst sets COVID-19 vaccination policy for employees, council members
A vaccination policy requiring Town of Amherst council members and employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by mid-December 2021, was adopted by the Amherst town council during a special session on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021.
“The town is committed to providing a safe working environment for our employees, councillors, volunteers and members of the public with whom we interact regularly,” Mayor David Kogon said. “Vaccination is the single most effective step in protecting ourselves while ensuring the citizens have a safe and comfortable experience when dealing with our staff.”
A six-month pilot project that will use flags to help pedestrians using crosswalks become more visible to motorists got underway on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, with the installation at three locations of baskets containing the flags.

The Amherst town council appointed Deputy-Mayor Hal Davidson as the chairperson of its new Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Committee when it met in special session on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021.
The council also appointed Coun. Lisa Emery as the committee’s vice-chairperson.
