Audited financial statements for the Town of Amherst and its water utility were accepted by Amherst town council during its regular monthly meeting, which was held in the council chambers at town hall on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.
The consolidated financial statement for the 2018-19 fiscal year showed the town ended the year with a general operating surplus of $369,068. The non-consolidated financial statement for the water utility over the same period showed the utility ended the year with an operating surplus of $6,933.
Amherst Mayor David Kogon has proclaimed Sept. 23-Sept. 29, 2019, as Right to Know Week in the Town of Amherst.
“Access to information is critical to democracies around the world because having that access enables citizens to actively engage in a meaningful way in the democratic process,” Kogon said as he signed the proclamation on Sept. 18, 2019.
A three-phased approach to enhancing the border entrance into the Town of Amherst is being proposed by the Municipality of Cumberland’s Border Enhancement Committee.
The phases would include the creation of a greenbelt corridor, maintaining that corridor and planting aesthetic enhancements, committee representatives told Amherst town council’s committee of the whole on Sept. 16.
