Council approved during its Jan. 25, 2021, session the creation of a 1.7 full-time-equivalent term customer service representative position for a period that runs between now and March 31, 2021.
Creating the position will allow the town to extend the walking track hours at the Amherst Stadium to about 90 hours per week from the current 10 hours per week, while maintaining COVID-19 protocols at the stadium as ordered by the provincial government.
Amherst town council’s committee of the whole directed town staff on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, to begin the process of having a water rate study prepared that may eventually be used in applying to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board for new water rates.
Cheryls Cozy’s mittens are being offered free for the taking for those in need.
They can be found in boxes recently installed in three locations in the Town of Amherst – in front of town hall, Rotary Park near the food pantry and near Tantramar Chevrolet – by the Empowering Beyond Barriers committee, aided by Maggie’s Place Resource Centre for Families, Tantramar Chevrolet, local high school students, the SOAR Community Health Board, Bill Dowe Trucking and Excavating and the Town of Amherst.
A new officer is on the beat in the Town of Amherst.
Cameron Baker began patrolling the town as a part-time constable on Dec. 17, 2020. He is filling a vacancy created by the departure of Const. Destiny Merriam.
