Walking track hours at the Amherst Stadium have been extended to near pre-pandemic levels, but provincially mandated COVID-19 protocols continue to impact the track’s operation.
Starting on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, the walking track will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Walkers will still have to provide contact information and physical distancing must still be observed.
Feb. 14, 2021, to Feb. 19, 2021, has been proclaimed Family Violence Prevention Week in the Town of Amherst.
“Family violence affects too many people,” Mayor David Kogon said on Feb. 12, 2021, as he signed the proclamation on behalf of Amherst town council.
“It causes physical and psychological harm, violates the victim’s rights and freedoms and harms the healthy development of children. It is a public health issue, a criminal justice issue and a human rights issue.
A one-year agreement for the use of the Amherst Stadium by the Amherst Ramblers Jr. A Hockey Club during the 2020-2021 Maritime Hockey League season, was signed by the club and the Town of Amherst on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021.
“We are pleased that we have reached this agreement with the Amherst Ramblers,” Mayor David Kogon said. “The team has a long, successful history in Amherst and is an integral part of our community. It is one of the great organizations in our town that help make our community a great place to live, work and play.
February has been proclaimed African Heritage Month in the Town of Amherst.
In signing the proclamation on behalf of council on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, Mayor David Kogon noted the theme for this year’s African Heritage Month was Black History Matters: Listen, Learn, Share and Act.
