The Town of Amherst had a busy year during 2022. Here's a video review of the past year.
Sharon Bristol is Amherst’s new Community Living Director.
Amherst town council appointed Bristol to the position on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, during their regular council session. She was unanimously selected by the selection committee, which interviewed two others for the position.
“We look forward to working with Sharon,” Mayor David Kogon said. “She will help us place greater emphasis in the area of community well-being, which is one of our priorities. She will enable staff to focus on fostering an accessible, inclusive and diverse community for all residents and visitors, help build capacity to address and eliminate systemic barriers and address complex community issues.”
The Amherst town council at its Dec. 19, 2022, meeting approved changing the meeting dates during the upcoming year because they conflict with various holidays.
Normally, the Committee of the Whole meets on the third Monday of the month, while council meets on the fourth Monday. However, in February the Committee of the Whole meeting would fall on Heritage Day. As a result, it was rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023.
No one was injured when fire destroyed a family home on the Pumping Station Road in Brookdale early Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, morning.
Amherst firefighters received the alarm just after 5:15 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, located about five kilometres south east of Amherst, they discovered a split-entry home engulfed in flames, Fire Chief Greg Jones said.
