Mayor David Kogon, on behalf of the Amherst town council, has sent a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston and New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs that calls on those three governments to begin the work to protect the vital transportation links on the Isthmus of Chignecto from rising sea levels caused by climate change and extreme weather events no later than the end of 2023.
On hand to watch the mayor sign the letter was Sackville, N.B. Mayor Shawn Mesheau. Both communities have worked in unison in recent years to bring the issue before the three higher levels of government.
Mayor David Kogon, on behalf of the Amherst town council, has proclaimed the month of November to be Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Month in the Town of Amherst.
“There are more than 270,000 Canadians living with inflammatory bowel disease, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body to attack healthy tissues leading to inflammation of part of or all of the digestive system,” Mayor David Kogon, said as he signed the proclamation on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, in the presence of councillors George Baker and Dale Fawthrop.
Longtime employee Matthew Selig has taken on a new role with the Town of Amherst.
He was recently named the town’s Parks and Recreation Foreman, which means he is now in charge of the 60-plus green spaces the town owns as well as its seven parks. In addition, he will assist in running the Amherst Stadium and other town facilities like the Robbs Centennial Complex.

They can be found in boxes recently reinstalled in three locations in the Town of Amherst – in front of Amherst town hall, in the Rotary Park near the food pantry and near Tantramar Chevrolet.
