Amherst Police Department

A 48-year-old Pictou County man has been arrested on a Canada-wide warrant and is also facing additional trafficking charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, breach of release condition charges and charges under the Cannabis Act.

On Friday, June 21st, at approx. 7:45 p.m., Amherst Police received a complaint of a belligerent male in a local park on Beacon Street. Police attended and located a male sitting on a bench with an open alcohol container. The male was identified and it was learned that a Canada-wide warrant had been issued for his arrest on June 19th, 2024. The male was arrested and police located methamphetamine and cannabis on his person.

In addition to being returned to a Federal Institution, 48-year-old Christopher Wayne Teal has been charged with:

  • 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act - Possession of Methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • 145(5(5)(a) Criminal Code - Fail to comply with release order conditions x 3
  • 8(1)(a) Cannabis Act - Possession of over 30g of dried Cannabis in a public place
  • 78(3) Liquor Control Act – Illegal Possession of Liquor

Teal was held overnight in cells and was later turned over to the Sherriff’s Department to be transported back to a Federal Institution and will appear in court at a later date in relation to the additional charges.
