Biography
Dwayne was born and raised in River Hebert, Nova Scotia. He transferred schools in grade 9 to Amherst Regional High School and has been a member of the Amherst community ever since.
Dwayne has always been an athlete, playing soccer and basketball in high school for the Vikings. He played for the Amherst men’s soccer team for 10 years until the team disbanded in 2021.
Dwayne’s interest in business led him to enroll in business school at Nova Scotia Community College in Amherst, where he graduated in 2016. Following that, he completed a term with Indigenous Affairs and then took a position in the learning department at NSCC.
In 2019, he launched his first business downtown, Curly’s Sports & Supplements, and hasn't looked back since. A year and a half later, He opened The Amherst Candy Shoppe, and in December 2022, he took on the contract to operate the Canteen at the Amherst Stadium. He now has a team of over 12 employees, including some of his closest friends and family, which he considers a great blessing.
Dwayne has helped lead the Community Christmas Dinner for the past three years, alongside a team of four other dedicated community members, while also volunteering his time on Christmas day during the event. He also plays a major role in hosting the family night markets in Downtown Amherst. He donates to many organizations, events, fundraisers, and benefits. He believes in the power of community.
Dwayne was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022 for dedication to the community. He was also awarded the Town of Amherst - Community Support and Service Award at the 2023 Cumberland Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala.
