For Sgt. Graham, a lifelong APD member, this award marks a significant milestone. Inspired by a close friend in policing, he has spent his entire 16-year career serving Amherst. “The bonds formed with colleagues and a shared sense of purpose keeps me motivated” he says.
He describes the recognition as meaningful, especially during a time when the average career in policing is becoming much lower. “When the job is tough, it’s those moments when someone says you made a difference that remind you why you do it.”
Cpl. Mark McNair, now in his 18th year, began his career after graduating from the Atlantic Police Academy. He brings experience from both general patrol and the Major Crime Unit. For McNair, it’s the challenge and variety that keeps the job engaging. “There’s always something new to learn,” he explains, “and being able to help the public and mentor others makes it fulfilling.” His advice to newcomers? Get involved, learn everything you can—but don’t forget to take care of yourself.
Cst. Michelle Harrison has also reached this commendable milestone, marking 15 years of service to the community.
We thank all three officers for their unwavering dedication.
