
Parks Attendant - Recreation Facilities

STATUS: Full-Time Seasonal
SUMMARY OF RESPONSBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Foreman, the Parks Attendant (seasonal) is responsible for general maintenance of Town parks, green spaces, floral displays and other duties at assigned facilities which may include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting maintenance of grounds, buildings and equipment and use of machinery, tools and equipment;
- Performing a variety of cleaning, janitorial, painting, grass-cutting & raking, weeding, pruning, planting and litter pick-up and disposal activities;
- Performing routine checks, servicing, cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment being used;
- Developing and practicing safe work habits by wearing appropriate personal protection equipment and adhering to all safety procedures;
- Additional duties may be required, as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or combination of education and equivalent experience in Parks maintenance/operations;
- Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence;
- Knowledge and experience of the materials, practices and equipment used in parks operations;
- Ability to read and follow directions and safety manuals as well as the ability to understand and apply oral instruction;
- Ability to work in a results-orientated, customer focused, team environment;
- Physical and mental ability to perform minor maintenance duties.
- Driver’s abstract and criminal record check, at the sole discretion of the CAO.
TRAINING:
Depending on operational and safety requirements, training may include but is not limited to the following: First Aid, WHIMIS, CPR or any other safety courses as deemed necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Parks Attendant works both indoors and outdoors in all weather and working conditions. The Parks Attendant may use chemicals, paints and other such hazardous materials. The Parks Attendant must be able to stand, walk, sit, kneel, lift heavy objects and operate equipment such as mowers, weed trimmers, hand tools etc. This is a seasonal position that is recalled annually for the period of approximately April/May to October/November each year.
SALARY: Per the current Collective Agreement: $28.09/hour (until March 31), then $28.93/hour effective April 1, 2025.

Engineering Summer Student

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Duties as assigned by the Engineering Technician and/or Public Works Foremen such as measuring project areas, taking notes, placing survey stakes, and monitoring on-site contractors.
- Ensuring proper safety practices are followed on job sites, maintaining construction records, preparing reports as needed.
- Assisting the Engineering Technician and/or Public Works Foremen with planning and supervising work as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and experience in civil construction would be considered an asset.
- Engineering student in a post-secondary institution. Applicants who have completed two full years will be considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Must be physically able to walk long distances, lift 50 lbs, reach and bend.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, commencing late April/early May 2025.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends on occasion, dependent upon operational need.
- The rate of pay shall be $19.70/hr.

Turf & Trail Maintenance/Landscape Maintenance
- Assist with turf and trail maintenance and upkeep such as, but not limited to: mowing, trimming, raking, weeding, litter pick-up, and turf repair;
- Assisting with the installation and maintenance of all floral displays such as planting, weeding, edging, mulching, and watering of flower beds, trees, and hanging baskets
- Litter pick-up and general beautification duties will also apply
Robb Sports Complex
- Assist in daily operations and overall tidiness of Robb Sports Complex. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Field maintenance and repair, mowing, trimming, lining ball fields, painting & litter pick-up
Active Living Programming & Community Events
- Assist with the development and coordination of programs and events to support family first and unstructured play activities;
- Assist with the promotion of tourism, recreation, arts and culture within the Town.

THE ROLE

Responsibilities will include emergency response, conducting preventative patrols, including foot patrols, and enforcing all criminal code and provincial and federal statutes. The Constable will endeavor to establish strong relationships in the community through regular patrols, public meetings, and local events and serve as a visible and accessible presence to build trust and enhance community well-being.
