Fraud Charges Laid in Property-Related Complaints

The Amherst Police Department has arrested and charged a 35-year-old male in relation to a series of frauds that occurred in the Amherst area.

The 11-month investigation began when police received a call from owners of a rental property who reported that they were not receiving rents or damage deposits.

The file was assigned to the Amherst Police Department Major Crime Unit who investigated the matter and discovered that the property manager had allegedly misappropriated rents and damage deposits from several tenants. Investigators discovered that the incidents involved three separate properties in the Amherst area and one property in the Springhill area.

Matthew LEPPER of Amherst, Nova Scotia has been charged with:

  • 3 counts of Fraud Over $5,000
  • 1 count of Fraud Under $5,000

LEPPER was released from custody and will be appearing at Amherst Provincial Court on May 27th, 2024 for plea.
