Amherst Police Department
An Amherst male has been arrested and charged with impaired driving following an complaint to Police concerning a male operating an E-Bike without a helmet who appeared to be impaired.
On June 23rd, 2025 at approximately 6:55pm, an off-duty APD member observed a male operating an E-Bike without a helmet and who appeared to be weaving back and forth on the road in front of vehicles, causing several vehicles to pull to the side. The officer approached the male who exhibited signs of intoxication. The off-duty officer interceded and removed the male from the bike and Police were called. The male was arrested and returned to the Police Station where breath tests were completed and the subject failed.
As a result of this incident, Ryan Ripley, aged 42 of Amherst has been charged with:
- Sec 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code – Operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol
- Sec 320.14(1)(b) Criminal Code – Operation of a conveyance while over 80Mg%
- Sec 320.18 Criminal Code - Operation of a vehicle while prohibited from driving
Ripley was held and remanded into custody because of his history of criminal convictions concerning impaired driving offenses and driving while prohibited charges. He appeared in court on June 25th and released on conditions.
