Mayor Small has officially proclaimed this week - May 18-23, 2026 - as VON Week in Amherst.
The Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) is a charitable, community-based healthcare organization that has been supporting the health and well-being of Canadians for 129 years. In Amherst, VON nurses, home support workers, coordinators, and volunteers deliver critical care to residents.
WHEREAS The VON (Victorian Order of Nurses) for Canada is a charitable community-based health care organization that has addressed community health and social needs for 129 years; and
WHEREAS VON nurses, home support workers, community service coordinators, and many other staff and volunteers have been caring for the lives and well-being of residents of Amherst for many years; and
WHEREAS VON’s nursing, health promotion, and support services make an important contribution to the health care system in Nova Scotia; and
WHEREAS VON Week is a time to recognize the vital work happening in our community, to engage in conversation, and support the VON as they fill their clients’ days with meaning and hope.
BE IT RESOLVED, THEREFORE, that I, Robert Small, Mayor of Amherst, proclaim May 18-23, 2026, as VON Week in the town of Amherst.
As we celebrate VON Week, residents are encouraged to take time to recognize the incredible people behind VON and to learn more about the services they provide in our region.
