Town of Amherst Water Utility

Public Notification – Voluntary Water Conservation Notice

Due to ongoing drought conditions affecting our region, the Amherst Water Utility is issuing a Voluntary Water Conservation Notice for all customers. While we want to reassure the community that our current groundwater source remains stable and is not in jeopardy, this conservation measure is being implemented proactively to help maintain reliable delivery of safe, clean potable water for everyone.

We are asking residents, businesses, and other water users to voluntarily reduce or eliminate non-essential water use wherever possible. Examples include:

  1. Refrain from lawn and garden watering
  2. Reduce vehicle washing at home, use a commercial car wash that recycle water
  3. Postpone pressure-washing of driveways, sidewalks, or buildings
  4. Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
  5. Fixing leaks promptly (e.g., dripping faucets or running toilets)
  6. Minimize toilet flushing
  7. Turn off the water while brushing teeth

These voluntary efforts can significantly ease the demand on our system and ensure continued service for essential uses such as drinking water, fire protection, and sanitation.

We thank you for your cooperation and commitment. The Amherst Water Utility will continue to monitor water supply conditions closely and will provide updates as necessary.
