NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT A BY-LAW REGARDING ROAD TRAIL DESIGNATION

Notice is hereby given that Amherst Town Council intends to consider the adoption of a Road Trails Designation By-Law.

As the Eddy Road provides a direct access from the ATV trail system to the downtown area,

the proposed By-law would designate Eddy Street as an ATV access trail from the town limit to a parking area located at 8 Eddy Street in accordance with the Nova Scotia Road Trails Act.

The Nova Scotia Road Trails Act includes several requirements for ATV operators on designated road trails, including but not limited to:

  • Vehicle license, registration and insurance, and a valid operator driver’s license under the Motor Vehicle Act.
  • 25 km/h speed limit.
  • No operation between 30 minutes after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise.
  • No passengers under 9 years of age.

This By-law would not impact any other street within the Town of Amherst.

Council intends to give second reading of the Road Trails Designation By-Law at their regular meeting scheduled for October 26, 2026, at 6:00 P.M.  The proposed By-law may be inspected and/or a copy obtained at the office of the Municipal Clerk, Dominion Public Building, 98 East Victoria Street, Amherst during regular business hours.
