The Town of Amherst’s vision is to be a healthy, prosperous, inclusive and environmentally sustainable community in which people of all ages, abilities, genders and cultures are engaged and proud to live, work and play. We are committed to ensuring that all citizens have the equitable opportunity to contribute and be valued.
We believe in supporting accessibility, diversity, inclusion, and equity, allowing dignity for all citizens of our community.
We further seek to understand how we can be more responsive to the needs of the underrepresented groups of our community. We recognize that we need to create a space that is safe for their voices to be heard thus creating a community that is balanced, equitable and committed to ongoing review of our vision’s objectives.
With the guidance of the Town of Amherst Accessibility, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (AIDE) Committee, we will commit to doing the necessary work by fostering strong relationships with underrepresented groups, gathering feedback, researching and revising relevant policies, creating actionable, achievable goals and adequately resourcing the work.
If you have questions about this committee and its work, please contact Community Living Director Sharon Bristol at

Since the pdf Amherst Stadium(4.43 MB) was built in 1959, it has been home to many great events on and off the ice. The Stadium is host to the Amherst Junior A Ramblers, Cumberland County Minor Hockey, Amherst Skating Club, and many athletic and community events. An indoor walking track is open daily. The building is fully accessible.
Through an innovative pilot project, public skating is offered free of charge and ice rental fees are waived for youth programs (minor hockey, figure skating). The intent of this pilot is for organizations to pass the equivalent savings to their members, resulting in reduced registration fees and greater access to sports for all families.
Please review new security measures in place at the Amherst Stadium.
