Elementary school students will be walking all around Amherst Wednesday, October 29, to explore seasonal displays along the Scarecrow Stroll route.
Watch for them; give them a wave; and, always use extra caution while driving near groups of children.
Let’s enjoy all the sights, sounds, and sweets now until Halloween!

At last night’s meeting of the Amherst Board of Police Commissioners, we took a moment to recognize the recent promotion of one of our Amherst Police Department members – Inspector Tom Wood.
New Three-Way Stop Coming to Willow Street

The new street providing access to the apartment development behind E.B. Chandler Junior High School will be named Gallagher Street.
The intersection where Gallagher Street meets Willow Street – located between Webster Street and Walter Purdy Avenue – will soon become a three-way stop.
Work in this area is expected to begin later this week.
Temporary detours will be in place while crews install new signage and a new crosswalk.

Chad Smith is the owner of Signpost Commercial Consulting; a new business located downtown at 26 Laplanche Street. He’s from Amherst, and he’s had a few different careers in related industries over the years, in a few different places.
Mayor Small and members of council recently attended Chad's open house event and took a moment to present him and his staff with a new business certificate, officially welcoming Signpost Commercial Consulting to the community.
Mayor Small was joined by members of council to present Chad Smith and his staff with a new business certificate, welcoming Signpost Commercial Consulting to downtown Amherst.
“Out of all the careers I’ve had over the years, this is the one that really stuck with me,” said Chad. “I wish I had known about this 30 years ago!”
Street Closure for Great Amherst Street Party

Streets will be closed downtown this Saturday, October 18, 2025, for The Great Amherst Street Party.
Victoria Street East will be closed between Havelock Street and Lawrence Street. And Church Street will be closed at King Street.
This closure will start at 7 a.m. on October 18 and the street will re-open at 5 p.m. on the same day.
Drivers downtown on Saturday are advised to plan an alternate route.

Town Facilities Closed on Monday, October 13 for Thanksgiving

On Monday, October 13, 2025, the following Town of Amherst facilities will be closed for Thanksgiving:
- Town Hall
- Amherst Stadium (Exception: 2 pm game)
- Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre
- Public Works Garage
Amherst Fire and Police services will operate as normal over the holiday Monday.

Facilities will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
