Water Main Flushing Notice

The Town of Amherst will begin its water main flushing program starting Monday, June 8, 2026. Flushing work will continue for approximately five weeks.
During this time, customers may experience turbidity (cloudy or brown water) and low water pressure.
Residents may need to run their cold water (not hot water) for 5-10 minutes, or until water becomes clear. It is recommended that you thoroughly flush your system following this time to release any trapped air or sediment from your system.
By-law Adoption - Graffiti and Removal of Graffiti

NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADOPT A BY-LAW REGARDING GRAFFITI AND GRAFFITI REMOVAL IN THE TOWN OF AMHERST, C-14
Notice is hereby given that Amherst Town Council intends to consider the adoption of a By-law Regarding Graffiti and Graffiti Removal in the Town of Amherst.
This proposed By-law would prohibit graffiti on structures, vegetation, property or things and prohibit property owners from allowing graffiti on their property. It would require property owners to ensure that their property is ‘graffiti free’. If graffiti is found to be on property, the Town may provide written notice that the property owner must remove it within 15 days. Hate-Based or offensive graffiti is to be removed within 24 hours of receipt of written notice. If the graffiti is not removed within these time frames, the Town can enter the property and remove the graffiti at the owner’s cost.

Park Street Closed Today - Capital Paving Program

NOTICE: Park Street will be closed today, June 4, for paving between Hickman Street and Mission Street.
Capital Paving Program
Lots of fresh asphalt is being spread in Amherst over the next few weeks as the annual Capital Paving Program gets underway.
Due to the nature of this work, there is sometimes short notice when a paving project will take place.
Specific notices will be issued as soon as possible. Detours will be set up as required when each project gets underway.
Thank you all for your patience as we work to improve Amherst’s street surfaces.

Please Attend the D-Day Ceremony

Saturday, June 6, 2026 - 10 a.m. in Victoria Square
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10 Amherst is hosting its annual D-Day ceremony this coming Saturday in Victoria Square.
All are welcome to attend, to comemorate an event that changed the course of history.
Please arrive five minutes early as the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. The ceremony will proceed rain or shine, so please prepare accordingly.
Street Closures - Wednesday, June 3, 2026

Beginning at noon today and lasting until approximately 3 p.m. there will be paving work at the Chamberlain/Hickman rail crossing.
Chamberlain Street and Hickman Street will be closed to through traffic from 12-3 p.m. today. Detours will be in place and drivers are advised to plan an alternate route.

Street Closures - Spring Street Academy Blue Nose Run

This Friday, June 5, Spring Street Academy is hosting its annual Blue Nose Run and streets will be closed to accommodate student runners from schools across Cumberland County.

- Dickey Street closed between Charles and Donald
- Donald Street closed between Dickey and Spring
- Spring Street closed between Donald and Charles

Downtown Street Closures on Saturday

This Saturday, May 23, 2026, Amherst public works will close the "Downtown T" to complete street painting operations in the area. Barricades will be in place from 8 a.m. until approximately noon on Saturday.
Church Street will be closed to traffic between King Street and Victoria Street. Victoria Street will be closed to traffic between Lawrence Street and Havelock Street.
Drivers are advised to plan an alternate route.
